피아니스트 이보경(D.M.A.)은 연주자, 교사, 학자로 활발히 활동해왔다. 아시아와 미국 서부 지역에서 솔리스트와 실내악 연주자로 활동해 온 그녀는 최근 오레건 유진에서 열린 독주회(2023)를 포함해 독주, 실내악, 관현악이 포함된 많은 솔로 및 갈라 콘서트에 정기적으로 출연해 왔으며, 폭넓은 그녀의 레퍼토리에는 베토벤 협주곡 5번(루마니아 티미쇼아라 필하모닉 오케스트라), 브람스 협주곡 1번(UO 심포니 오케스트라), 라흐마니노프 협주곡 3번(모스틀리 필하모닉 오케스트라) 등이 있다.

 

2008년 오레건대학교 협주곡-아리아 콩쿠르에서 우승하여 브람스 협주곡 제1번을 UO 심포니 오케스트라와 협연했으며, 또한 유학 중 Ruth Close Musical Fellow Scholarship, UO University Award, UO School of Music Achievement Award 등 수많은 상을 수상했다. 호로비츠(Vladimir Horowitz)의 제자이며 그녀의 스승이기도 한 딘 크레이머 박사(Dr. Dean Kramer)는 “강력한 테크닉과 아름다운 음색을 지닌 뛰어난 피아니스트”라고 묘사하며 “독주곡과 실내악, 협주곡 레퍼토리에 모두 능숙하고, 특히 그녀의 성악적 재능은 그녀의 피아노 연주에 독특한 성악적 느낌을 부여한다”고 평가했다.

 

피아니스트 이보경은 미국리스트학회, 한국피아노학회, 레피토레음악협회 등의 단체들이 주관하는 연주회에 다수 출연하였고, Northern-American Conference on 19c Music(University of Kansas), College Music Society (Seattle Pacific University), 한국피아노페다고지학회(KAPP) 등에 초청되어 다수의 강연회 및 렉처 리사이틀을 가졌다. 또한 KAPP 정기 간행물(2015)에 논문을 발표했고, 2018년에는 보리스 베르만의 저서 “프로코피예프의 피아노 소나타”를 한국어로 번역했다. 초등 교육에도 애정을 가진 그녀는 하노이에 거주하는 동안 Khan Am Cho Em(KACE - ‘어린이를 위한 따뜻한 스카프’로 번역됨)의 연례 그랜드 콘서트를 열정적으로 지원하여 가난한 베트남 북부 지역에 학교를 지어주는 기금 모금에 수차례 동참했다.

 

한국 거주시, 강원대학교(2011-2014)와 가천대학교(2011-2016) 강사를 역임하며, 실기 레슨, 피아노 페다고지, 피아노 문헌 수업을 가르쳤다.

 

피아니스트 이보경은 서울예고를 졸업하고 경원대학교(현 가천대학교)에서 음악학사 및 석사학위를 취득했으며, 오레건대학의 박사 과정으로 진학하여 전액 장학금을 받고 반주와 페다고지 조교로 일했고, 2009년 졸업 시 건반 연주 부문 최고득점자로 박사 학위를 취득했다. (2009, 강의 논문: "Franz Liszt’s Lieder by Schubert, Schumann and Liszt – A Performer’s Guide")

 

최근 오레건으로 돌아온 그녀는 티칭, 연주 및 학회 활동을 지속하는 한편 콩쿨 및 페스티벌 등의 심사위원으로도 참여하고 있다.

 

Pianist BoKyung Lee (D.M.A.) has been active as a performer, teacher and scholar. Having performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the Asia and America, Dr. Lee has regularly appeared in many solo and gala concerts with solo, chamber and orchestral music, including the recent solo recital in Eugene, OR. (2023) Among her extended repertoire are Beethoven concerto no.5 (Rumania Timisoara Philharmonic Orchestra), Brahms concerto no.1 (UO Symphony Orchestra), and Rachmaninoff concerto no.3 (Mostly Philharmonic Orchestra).

 

Dr. Lee was the winner of the 2008 University of Oregon Concerto-Aria Competition, performing the Brahms Concerto No.1 in D minor. She was also the winner of numerous other UO awards, including the Ruth Close Musical Fellow Scholarship, the UO University Award, and the UO School of Music Achievement Award. Described by Vladimir Horowitz protégé Dr. Dean Kramer as "an excellent pianist with a strong technique and beautiful tone, BoKyung Lee is equally at home in solo and chamber music as well as concerto repertoire. Her background as a singer gives her piano playing a unique "vocal" sense."

 

Dr. Lee has performed in concerts presented by such organizations as the American Liszt Society, the Piano Society of Korea, the RePitore Music Association (Seoul), and was invited to such conferences as the North-American Conference on 19c Music (University of Kansas), the College Music Society (Seattle Pacific University), and the Korea Association of Piano Pedagogy, where she gave numerous lecture-recitals. An artist with a keen interest in elementary education, during her years living in Hanoi she passionately supported the annual grand concert by Khan Am Cho Em (KACE - translated as ‘a warm scarf for children’), which raised fund for constructing school buildings in less developed areas of Northern Vietnam.

 

Dr. Lee was a faculty member at Kangwon National University (2011-2014) and Gachon University (2011-2016) in Korea, teaching applied piano lessons, piano pedagogy, and piano literature classes.

 

Dr. Lee graduated from Seoul Arts High School in Korea and received Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Kyungwon (presently, Gachon) University. Continuing her doctoral study at the University of Oregon, Dr. Lee was awarded a Graduate Assistantship in Collaborative Piano and Piano Pedagogy with full scholarhip. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2009 with the highest score in the keyboard performance area (2009, Lecture Document Thesis: “Franz Liszt's Piano Transcriptions of Lieder by Schubert, Schumann and Liszt - A Performer's Guide”), with the supporting area in Piano Pedagogy.

 

Having recently moved back to Eugene, OR, she is continuing her active career of teaching, performing and serving as a jury member of national/international competitions.
